The Sseko Fellows are a group of women across the U.S. who share our story, sell our products, and make a difference in their community and our world. We are so lucky to walk alongside these women in creating a brighter future, and want to take a moment to introduce you to one of them, Amberleigh!
Amberleigh MacIntyre recently hit ADVENTURESS STATUS, which is a huge deal in Sseko world, let us tell you! This means she sold over $10,000 worth of product in just one month! And that she has helped earn heaps of badges for her Sole Sister in Uganda to earn additional scholarship money for university. This ALSO means that she’ll be joining us on a FREE trip to Uganda in the spring! So, let’s introduce you to Amberleigh…

As Americans, we’ve always been intrigued by the idea of Cuba—this forbidden land, rich in history and culture. Can you imagine what it would be like to actually travel there? Earlier year, Ben + Liz of the Sseko team got to visit Havana with their friends Caroline + Jayden. We asked Caroline to put together a Travel Guide to Havana, Cuba for us, so we could share all the stories, travel tips and must-do’s with you! We’ll let Caroline take it from here….
It’s that time of year again! Another class of students is graduating, and getting ready to embark on a new journey! Is there a young woman in your life that’s graduating this season? If you’re looking for the perfect gift to say congratulations, we’re here to help! We carefully curated this Graduation Gift Guide below, including all of our top picks for the graduates in our lives.
1. Ribbon Sandals
Every Sseko ribbon sandal is made by a young woman who is working towards university in Uganda, and each purchase directly helps her to continue her education. What better gift to give your graduate than one that helps another girl pursue her dreams, too? (Plus, what college student doesn’t want a pair of these strappy beauties?)
In our Brave Spotlight series, we highlight rad women who are taking small steps every day towards a brighter future. This time, we’re excited to introduce you to Gale Straub, the incredible woman behind She Explores, a site dedicated to women pursuing bravery and sisterhood in the outdoors and beyond. We hope you’re as inspired by Gale as we are!
Team Sseko US recently had a chance to visit Uganda for the first time! Our colleagues, who’d spent a lot of time in Uganda, shared so many travel tips and guidance with us before we embarked on our adventure—so the trip went by very smoothly! For anyone looking to go to Uganda, we thought we’d help you out by putting together a list of our top tips for traveling there. From must-see locations to food you HAVE to try to what you want to make sure to avoid, here are some Uganda Travel Tips we picked up along the way!
This is guest post written by ethical fashionista Bre Shanks.
On 24 April 2013, more than one thousand people were killed when the Rana Plaza building collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Western multinationals like Primark, Walmart, and Mango produced clothing at the perilously constructed commercial building. The day before the collapse, inspectors had discovered significant cracks throughout the structure of the complex, where multiple floors had been added on illegally. Despite the grave warnings, factory owners demanded that their employees continue working. It was the deadliest garment-factory accident in history.
Fashion Revolution Day began as a way to ensure the same injustices aren’t repeated—or forgotten. Every year on April 24, consumers are challenged to ask brands who made what they’re wearing. By asking the questions that matter most, we can create an industry that values transparency, people, the environment, and profit in equal measure.
We at Sseko agree it’s time for a change. Bre interviewed the Sseko team about how they’re changing the world, one pair of sandals at a time.
“I used to think being brave meant doing something big and cinematic and heroic, but after this trip, I realize sometimes taking those smaller steps that take us out of our comfort zone and help us grow can be just as brave.” -Adriana Jaime
Adriana is a Portland, Oregon dweller dedicating her time to working with kids and embracing her creativity through photography, writing, and being a hostess. Although she’s not originally from Portland, she tells us that the city feels more like home to her than any other place in the world. After a recent trip to NYC with friends, Adriana was curious what it might look like to move to a brand new city. Little did she know this would change her idea of what ‘being brave’ meant. We believe you will be inspired by the steps of bravery she took outside of her comfort zone so we asked her to share her journey with us.
We are excited to introduce you to our latest and greatest sandal: the Silver & Espresso Crossover Slide designed by our friend & actress Sophia Bush! This Spring, we’ve introduced four brand-new additions to our sandal line, but the Crossover Slide is the most exciting for our team because it’s our first sandal to require a shoe last in the assembly process! We’ll give you a behind-the-scenes peak at how the sandal came to be, from Sophia’s design to the final production…
