Here at Sseko we deeply believe that every great journey begins with a small step. The Sseko Fellows are a tribe of women that have embarked on such a journey to create opportunity and community for women here in the states, as well as for our sisters in East Africa. One of those Fellows, Cassie Fussle, recently took a step into our Fellows community. This is her New Beginnings story!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am married to my high school sweetheart, together we have two amazing kids (Katherine, 3, Ben, 1), and live in a small lake community in Northern Indiana. I love coffee, sewing, and anything DIY and crafty! In this season with our young children we enjoy taking simple trips, but one day I’d love to travel the world and experience all that other cultures have to offer.
This season we’re focusing on trusting in the magic of new beginnings, like this new beginning you’ve started with Sseko as a Fellow! What has been your favorite part (or two or three) about this new adventure with Sseko?
Along with becoming a part of the amazing culture created by our Fellows, I’ve loved learning more about Sseko’s beginning and it’s mission! It’s inspiring and drives my desire more to seek fair trade in our purchases as a family and also to live by the idea #buybetternotmore.
What inspires your personal style?
That’s a tough one to narrow down. Right now, I’m working to create an entire handmade wardrobe. I enjoy testing new sewing patterns for Independent Designers and I’ve been enjoying learning new techniques and trying new styles. Right now I am LOVING summer rompers! I sewed this romper with a pattern from Striped Swallow Designs.
What piece of the Brave Manifesto resonates most with you? Why?
The way it’s made matters! I am a strong believer in this! We can each choose to support ethical fashion and therefore make a positive impact on people and our planet!
What is your favorite piece in our Spring collection?
My favorite is the Drawstring Satchel Bag! I waited while it was backordered and it was worth the wait! It’s perfect!
