Here at Sseko we deeply believe that every great journey begins with a small step. The Sseko Fellows are a tribe of women that have embarked on such a journey to create opportunity and community for women here in the states, as well as for our sisters in East Africa. One of those Fellows, Kellie Moskey, recently took a step into our Fellows community. This is her New Beginnings story!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am 25 years old- but just by a couple days 🙂 and am from Connecticut. I joined Sseko as a Fellow in January after some encouraging by my mentor, but I’m totally happy she kept on me! In addition to being a Fellow, I am a registered nurse part time and a doctoral student full time. My biggest fan is my fiancé, Brian, who will be my husband this fall (and yes my bridesmaids and I will be wearing Sseko sandals) as well as my parents and two brothers. My hobbies include Sseko instagramming, hiking, hunting, fishing, and anything else outdoors- not your usual fashionista.
This season we’re focusing on trusting in the magic of new beginnings, like this new beginning you’ve started with Sseko as a Fellow! What has been your favorite part (or two or three) about this new adventure with Sseko?
Trusting in the magic of new beginnings is such a perfect statement for becoming a Fellow. To be completely honest, I was hesitant at first. I didn’t think I could be outgoing enough or be able to talk about fashion. I quickly learned that Sseko’s mission speaks for itself and you are really just sharing the story of dedicated young women prepared to work for a brighter future. Magic is a great way to name what happens at Sseko, but I know underneath that magic is a lot of hardworking, dedicated Sseko ladies. One of my favorite parts of being a Fellow is being a part of the amazing community that is Sseko and truly having the support of EVERYONE at Sseko.
What inspires your personal style?
I never considered myself to have “a style”, but with Sseko, it’s pretty easy. I love natural colors with a little pop which basically describes Sseko’s product line. You can usually find me carrying a large bag because I tend to be a heavy traveler- therefore totes are a go-to, especially as a student. You can also always find me with my Wanderlust Shawl. It’s the perfect accessory and makes for a great blanket when you get chilly!
What piece of the Brave Manifesto resonates most with you? Why?
When in doubt, give Grace. I love this piece because it defines my reasoning for becoming a Fellow. Often times you want to help someone but don’t know where to start or what you could have that may be of benefit to them. Grace is always the answer. My Sseko story is all about “Let go and let God”. I never imagined that I’d be able to help change lives across the world or have my life changed because of them, but here I am working for an incredible company that provides opportunity and encouragement for so many both in Africa and right here in the US. When you don’t know where to turn next, give Grace. And when you do know where to turn, still give Grace.
What is your favorite piece in our Spring collection?
Rose Gold Crossover Slides. These get an automatic consideration because of two words: Rose Gold. Second, they are the most comfortable and convenient shoes I’ve ever owned. These slides have become my go-to shoe and help dress up any outfit. My biggest issue is living in CT and not being able to wear these year round!!
