Here at Sseko we deeply believe that every great journey begins with a small step. Introducing one of those small step takers, Taylor Trenchard! Taylor is part of our Sseko Fellows tribe. The Sseko Fellows are a community of women that have embarked on such a journey to create opportunity and community for women here in the states, as well as for our sisters in East Africa.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
The boring first date stuff first: I am a 24-year old who lives outside of Boston, MA. I just received my law degree from William & Mary in Virginia and I am currently consuming too many cups of Dunkin coffee a day while studying for the bar exam. But those who know me best will tell you about my love of good white wine, spontaneous dancing, clever t-shirts, and bad puns.
What has been your favorite part (or two or three) about this new adventure with Sseko?
I am so grateful for my own education, so knowing we are giving young women in Uganda the same opportunities is such a joy and a blessing. That motivates me every day. But what I didn’t expect, yet I am equally thankful for, is the incredible love I have found within the Fellows community. I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than a group of women who love and support one another. It has been so great to get to know so many other successful women who have the same goals & values.
What inspires your personal style?
Literally everything. I love mixing colors, patterns, and textiles to create unexpected outfits. One of the reasons I love Sseko so much is because I can wear the same sandals every day but they can look like a completely different shoe each time. I LOVE variety and bold patterns and I am constantly on the lookout for new ideas to incorporate into my own closet.
What piece of the Brave Manifesto resonates most with you? Why?
“Do things that scare you.” There is nothing more exhilarating and powerful than trying and conquering something new.
What is your favorite piece in our Spring collection?
I’m only allowed to pick one? Seriously? The answer to this question is different depending on the day you ask but today I have to go with the black wrap sandals. I love personalizing them with Brave pieces!
